How face unlock works ? | Brief explanation..

In this post I am going to explain how face unlock works in brief . This is actually a interesting topic of which we must have some idea , and in this post I am going to give you this idea !

Face Unlock

Facial recognition or Face unlock was introduced in Galaxy Nexus in 2012 . But at that time , it was just working on the front camera . It actually saves a picture of the user and whenever the face of the user is shown to the front camera it matches it with the saved picture , if there is difference in the face then it would never open . It was not secure because there were instances when the phone unlocks by showing the picture or photo of the user by anyone else, to get data from the mobile.
But In 2017 by the launch of Apple Iphone X , the world got the evolutionary face unlock feature which was safe and secure . Unlike the Galaxy Nexus , this phone was taking a face print of the face input of the user . The face print was divided into some nodal points . They may be any point or part of our face .

It actually scans the light reflected from our face . The system will not work and the phone will not open if any nodal point is missing . As the older phones were getting unlocked by the pictures or photos of the assigned face , the system nowadays identifies whether the light that is reflected is natural or not . The system gets an idea of the time taken for light , from any nodal point to reach the phone . That is why the phone does not get unlocked if a 2D photo is shown . It will know that all the nodal points take the same time to reach the phone . But in case of the original face it will clearly identify it by the time taken by light to reach the phone . The face print of the original face is matched by the assigned one and hence the system always finds the face print unique . Some times if the system identifies some changes in the face it does not respond . For example , if a person grows a huge beard the system may find changes in his nodal points . Some times the emotions of a face change . So the system takes those nodal points which dont change even after change in emotions . Iphone introduced many other sensors in the front so that the phone opens not only by seeing the photo of the user through the front camera , it reads the face totally.  Sometimes if there are two people with the same face (twins) the phone unlocks by seeing each of them's face . Thats why Galaxy later introduced Iris scan in their phone . Every person has a different iris print so the system checks the iris of the user and if it matches the assigned one only then it works .

In this way we can see that the face recognition which seems very easy but the technology used behind is just phenomenal .

So this is all the knowledge I had . It is not copied knowledge, its my knowledge thats why it is called AnupKnowledge .
